Created during the 2020 Lockdown – its purpose was to help bring back normality to people’s lives by arranging small vehicle get-togethers where individuals could meet and talk without animosity. All ages were welcome, and any type of vehicle was welcome. We didn’t care if it was a normal vehicle or something special; it did not matter; we didn’t care if you didn’t even own a vehicle. The whole point was to get people out and mix in with each other. IT WORKED, leading us to create our Car and Bike Group, Auto Anonymous.
We’re Not Just Another Car and Bike Group
It doesn’t matter what you drive, or what you ride from Ford to Ferrari, Lada to Lamborghini! As long as it makes you smile, we want to see it!
The newly formed Group went on to help and support local businesses by arranging Car Meets on their premises, where attendees buy food, drink and goods, but it also attracts outsiders who come to view the cars and, more importantly, to Socialise and, in turn, end up shopping. Some of the businesses included; Seasons Garden Centre in Wilstead and Public Houses like the Bedford Arms in Oakley, the Musgrave Arms in Shillington, and The Phoenix in Bedford. We continue to be approached by others for our help.
We even went on to support other car groups and shows. The famous Shuttleworth Museum invited us to organise our first car show (Father’s Day Show 2021) with the help of Ciro of Petrolheadonism of Sharnbrook, and YES, it was a Big Hit with around 600 Show Cars and about 2000 people. It was enough to attract attention and put us on the Map, and now many Organisers invite us and use us as a platform to advertise their shows.
Whilst Auto Anonymous is relatively young, created in mid-2020, i.e. just over two years old, we have managed to gain over 8000 members and still growing. It’s our opinion we succeed because we DO NOT DISCRIMINATE.
Originally, it was created by a handful of individuals with Admin roles. This role has proved to be very demanding, and many people don’t realise it involves expenses and can take over your life. Thus many have stepped down and taken over Moderator roles. Some have left to pursue other ventures, leaving me ‘holding the Baby’, which I will continue to nurture the best way I can. Hopefully, with the support of all the members and the rest of the team, we will continue not only to Grow BUT to continue making an impact in the Community and keep collecting Brownie Points.
